In Bali, women were once discouraged to become artists, as art was considered men's work. To help publicize and support the efforts of women artists, Mary Northmore established the Seniwati Gallery of Art by Women – the very first, and still the only Gallery of its kind in all of Asia.
If you’re looking for something truly special to do this weekend, consider a trip to the Burra Regional Art Gallery’s exhibition of Senawati, Women Artists of Bali. The opening speaker is leading Australian craniofacial surgeon, Professor David David AC and there will be performance by classical Balinese dancer, Putu Suta.2pm Sunday 29 September 2013. Surely this is something not to be missed!
Who would have though the likes of little old Burra could attract a mega-star, but that is exactly what is happening!!
Rumour has it that Russell Crowe was spotted in Burra recently scouring locations for his upcoming Gallipoli drama Water Diviner.
We hear that he’s found the perfect spot just out of Burra and will be back for a couple of weeks early next year for shooting… Fingers crossed Rusty stays in our cottage! Are you excited about such a huge movie being shot in SA? We are!!
